We're back!

It has been a bit quiet with Louna since the beginning of this year - we had worked ourselves very hard last year and just needed a bit of a break, both creatively and physically. While Lou went of travelling to collect some stories from across the pond, Anna focused on developing and telling stories in an educational context. Now we are rested and have recharged our creative energy we started the new season by revisiting a well-loved classic - Cinderella. Having been invited by our friend Blanche of Rags to Riches to perform at her amazing upcycling event 'This Is Not A Fashion Show' at Govanhill Baths, we jumped at the chance to develop a mini show based on clothes, vanity and appearance. And boy, was it fun! We were lucky enough to wear the amazing Sarah Milne's of 85A costumes made just from upcycled material and had a really good time. It's good to be back!

We are currently working on a brand new piece that tackles a German literary heavyweight - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his famous play 'Faust'. Compulsory in German schools, everyone in Germany can cite at least one of the play's quote that has found its way into everyday's language. We are taking on the challenge to see how much of the play's eternal struggle of good vs evil can be conveyed with the help of physical theatre and non-verbal communication.

During our research we also stumbled upon Murnau's 1926 cinematic masterpiece; Gustav Grundgens' legendary interpretation of Mephisto and Klaus Mann's very critical novel of the same name. Referencing the classic mime artists - think black bodysuits and white faces - we are playing with gender stereotypes, androgyny and the true meaning of Goethe's famous song 'Heidenroslein'.

Lancaster, here we come!

We are very excited to go 'down south' at the end of the month to perform both our kids' show 'Play Dead!' and our adult show 'Play Dead After Dark' at The Storey in Lancaster.

The premiere of this show had actually been last summer as part of the Merchant City Festival but it was not until we collaborated with the brilliant artist and set designer Geraldine Greene that our vision of two messed up rag dolls, who cause mischief in an abandoned nursery, entertaining each other with gruesome tales, really came to life. Using cardboard cut-outs and clever optical illusions, Geraldine transformed the stage into a very special, Louna-worthy space!

We are currently putting the finishing touches onto our revised show; including new tales and physical pieces before we will finally hit the road on the 29th of August with our Lounamobile.

Niki, Nanas & the Frog

So we have just finished our stint at GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) in Glasgow as part of the Merchant City Festival and we have to say it was absolutely amazing! 'Niki, Nanas & The Frog' was all about exploring the work by the wonderful artist Niki de Saint Phalle and not only did we learn a lot about this extraordinary woman, we also made lots of new friends! The gallery staff were very supportive and we were pleased that curator for modern and contemporary art Sean McGlashan gave his approval! He was convinced that if Niki was still alive "she would have loved the show" as she always wanted the puclic to engage with her artwork. And speaking of the public....man, they were on fire!!! Babies, grandparents, kids of all ages joined into our mad nana dance and sported some very fetching hats. To everyone who attended, a big fat THANK YOU for your participation! We will get together a wee film about the event soon, so watch that space!
